Water fountains are popular accessories for garden areas and landscaping design. The sound of gently flowing water can add a relaxing ambience to a backyard or garden, and fountains can be a relatively inexpensive way to generate that sound. However, until recently fountains were reliant on electricity from a dedicated source, meaning that they had to be hardwired into a home’s electrical system. Fortunately this is no longer the case, as the solar fountain has become a very popular alternative to the traditional style.
Solar technology has come a long way in recent decades. Photovoltaic panels were originally quite heavy and bulky, not to mention fairly inefficient. This made them unwieldy and severely limited the options for their use. These early panels were primarily relegated to supply extra stores of power to homes and even some offices. Improvements in solar panel construction and materials eventually led to greater efficiency, allowing these panels to generate the same amount of electricity using a much smaller package. This in turn opened up many more options for their application and solar powered devices soon sprouted up in response.
The solar fountain is just one such application for these smaller solar panels. By incorporating solar technology, these fountains are no longer tethered to a dedicated electrical connection. This opens up a lot of possibilities regarding where they can be installed within a landscaping design, as there is no need to be near an electrical outlet. Simply place the fountain in an area that gets regular amounts of sunlight and that’s all there is to it. The photovoltaic panels will generate enough electricity to operate the pump without costing the homeowner a dime in energy costs.
Fountains have traditionally been quite artistic in nature. Dating back to antiquity, they have been a medium for artistic expression, from simple arts and crafts designs to intricately carved masterpieces of sculpture. They have also been a staple of gardens, landscaping projects, and even town centers and public squares. They have been a part of human civilization and culture for millennia and they continue to hold a great deal of fascination for millions of people around the world today.
Fortunately, modern day homeowners don’t have to pay a king’s ransom in order to include a solar fountain in their yard. In most location, they can be easily found at a local home and garden center, and often in a wide array of sizes and designs. The costs can vary considerably however, depending on the size, style, and intricacies of the fountain. However, most people can find a suitable size and style for their yard for less than a few hundred dollars, provided they’re not looking to install their own Tivoli.
The solar water fountain has presented homeowners with a feasible alternative to the traditional electrically powered fountains of decades past. They are relatively inexpensive, are available in many different styles, and require very little in the way of installation and maintenance. And because they are available nearly everywhere, anyone that wants one can have one without having to search high and low for the perfect water fountain.
